Dicentra spectabilis
Old Fashioned Bleeding Heart
This is a classic, shade loving plant that one can never tire of.
Bleeding hearts in full bloom are a sure sign that we are well into the
spring season. Whether you prefer the classic, rosy-pink blooms,
or the pure white flowers of the 'Alba' cultivar, you get a bargain
either way. Not only are the plants gorgeous AND on sale, they're
huge! They can't get any bigger and fuller than they are now!
Place them in a shady area for a stunning display of color early on in
the season; flowers will bloom mid-spring into early summer.

Itea virginica
*Native*
Virginia Sweetspire
Any regular customer of ours knows this shrub well - and knows how
much we like it! Itea, or sweetspire, is a very tough and
versatile shrub. Being a native, those qualities don't come as a
surprise to us! Here is a plant that can certainly give you 4 full
seasons of interest in the landscape. Early spring and winter show
off the dark reddish brown bark of this plant, while summertime treats
you with white panicle flowers adored by hummingbirds and butterflies.
Perhaps fall is when this plant really boasts its best attributes; its
foliage turns a bright, fiery red and burgundy. (This is why we
use this plant as a substitute for the invasive burning bush!)
Anytime of the year, this shrub looks great. With its ability to
handle wet or dry, sun or shade, you can find a spot for iteas in your
landscape! Choose from the compact, 2' x 3' 'Little Henry', or
fill in areas quick with its larger cousin 'Henry's Garnet' - which
happens to be a Pennsylvania Horticultural Society gold medal winner
plant. You should be convinced by now to want one!
