A larval host for monarch butterflies this milkweed is the one most common seen along roadsides and naturalizing in meadows. Clusters of pinkish purple flowers are produced in summer that will be loved by all types of pollinators! Common Milkweed spreads easily by seed and rhizomes making it a good choice for naturalizing areas. It does particularly well in poor soils. Deer don't eat milkweed so it is particularity good for areas with heavy deer populations. Seed pods are large and when they open release the wind dispersed fluffy seeds.
