It is the larval host plant for the Silvery Checkerspot, supports a variety of specialized bees, and the seeds are enjoy by songbirds and other wildlife. With so many uses it makes a great addition to pollinator gardens, meadows, and other naturalized areas. Blooms in late summer into the fall. Hairy undersides and the rough stems tend to deter deer. Spreads by rhizomes and seeds.
