Hydrangeas come in many shapes, sizes and colors

Hydrangea anomala - Climbing Hydrangea

They can take sun or part shade and can grow 30 feet in any direction allowed. Train it along a fence, up a brick wall, or cover stucco. These vines are stunning in full bloom, showing off white semi-lacy flowers against deep green foliage.

'Petiolaris'

Hydrangea arborescens - Smooth Hydrangea

This species of hyadrangea is NATIVE to the area and blooms white in early summer. Their flowers provide great winter interest in the garden and the plant can tolerate dry shade quite well. They make good cut or dried flowers.

'Annabelle' - 3-4 feet tall and wide, round flowers emerge light green then turn white.

'Hayes Starburst' - 2-3 feet tall and wide, dome shaped flower heads with star-like white flowers.

'Incrediball' - NEW! 4-5 feet tall and wide, it's an Annabelle with gargantuan flowers! Strong stems support these bowling ball-sized blooms.

'Invincibelle Spirit' - NEW! 3-4 feet tall and wide, it's an Incrediball, but with enormous pink flowers lasting from early summer to frost. $1 for every plant sold will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Fund.

'Samantha' - 3-4 feet tall, 5-6 feet wide. Silver white blooms match bright silver leaf undersides. Watch it show its silver leaf bottoms in the wind!

'White Dome' - 4-6 feet tall, 6-8 feet wide. Dome shaped flowers with lacy edges, this hydrangea gives a Victorian effect to the garden. Proven to work here in dry shade, this plant's flowers look great in the winter - a truly easy to care for winter interest shrub.

Hydrangea macrophylla - Bigleaf hydrangea

The granddaddy of all hydrangea species, this is possibly the most popular and well known group of hydrangeas. Sometimes called mopheads, these are the hydrangeas you see in shades of bright pink or blue, with huge round flowers. Most can be grown in full sun or partial shade. The color of the flower depends on the variety, and often, the pH of your soil (more acidic = blue, more alkaline = pink).

'All Summer Beauty' - 3-5 feel tall and wide. Big roundflowers in shades of pink or blue depending on your soil pH. Often re-blooms.

'Cityline Venice' - 2-3 feet tall and wide. A super compact dwarf hydrangea with deep pink blooms.

'Claudie' - 3-5 feet tall, 4 feet wide. Rose pink flowers orbit the edges of these semi-flat flower heads. Glossy green foliage and compact growth. Named after French astronaut Claudie Andre-Deshays. Good for brightening up a shade garden.

'Dooley' - 3 feet tall and wide. A favorite of plant guru Michael Durr, this hardy hydrangea blooms on old and new wood. Huge round flowers are pink or blue depending on pH. A must have for anyone who's hydrangea 'just won't bloom.'

'Let's Dance Starlight' - 2-3 feet tall and wide. Our most popular "new" hydrangea, Starlight blooms on both new and old wood, which means tons of flowers! This Proven Winner is surely a winner in our books.

'Masja' - 3-5 feet tall and wide. The classic compact "red" hydrangea, it's semi dwarf and an easy grower.

'Parzifal' - 3-5 feet tall and wide. The edges of the leaves on this hydrangea are so ragged, they look like they were trimmed with tiny pinking shears. Pink, purple, blue or all three depending on the soil pH. A reliable bloomer.

'Shamrock' - 3-5 feet tall, 3-4 feet wide. Large doubled lacecap flowers, great for cut or dried arrangements. Flowers start out pink, then fade to a deep red-pink. Good for a shade garden.

Hydrangea paniculata - Hardy Hydrangea

Possibly the most abuse-tolerant of the hydrangeas, paniculatas are well known for their reliability and easy care. These hydrangeas all bloom on new wood, so trimming them back in the springtime, whether by you or deer, will not sacrifice any blooms for the year. Tolerant of a wide variety of conditions, from shade to sun. These hydrangeas bloom white and fade to varying shades of pink in the fall. Some of these hydrangeas can be pruned into a tree form over time.

'Limelight' - 6-8 feet tall, 5-6 feet wide. Well known for its continuously blooming whitish lime flowers, this plant tolerates full sun and produces massive flowers.

'Little Lamb' - 4-6 feet tall, 6-8 feet wide. A great plant for just about anything, Little Lambs will frolic over the foliage of this hydrangea before their white fleece coats turn deep rosy pink in the fall. An excellent plant for hedges or as a specimen.

P. grandiflora 'Pee Gee' - 8-10 feet tall and wide. A garden classic that is noted for its floriferous display of round white balls.

'Pee Wee' - 3-4 feet tall and wide. Like a smaller version of 'Tardiva.'

'Pink Diamond' - 6-8 feet tall and wide. Huge white cone shaped blooms turn deep pink by fall.

'Quick Fire' - 6-8 feet tall and wide. Pure white blooms fade to reddish pink. The earliest blooming of our paniculatas, this hydrangea can do no wrong. It even gets multicolored fall foliage which is rare for these hydrangeas.

'Swan' - 6-8 feet tall and wide. Our beloved Swan has THE biggest pure white blooms of all, in sun or shade. We always say these flowers would make a great wedding arrangement!

'Tardiva' - 6-8 feet tall and wide. Open, airy white cone shaped blooms grace this shrub in late summer to fall, then fade to a dark pink when finished. We have two planted at the nursery, one in sun, one in shade, and they are both maintenance free!

Hydrangea quercifolia - Oakleaf hydrangea

This is a great hydrangea for deep dark shade, or even just partial shade. It will tolerate morning sun, but dislikes hot afternoon sun. A fantastic winter interest shrub, you can get year round interest out of this hydrangea. Massive white blooms will dazzle you in early summer, then watch them fade to dark shades of pink; in the fall the large leaves (which are indeed shaped like oak leaves) turn scarlet to burgundy-purple, when they finally fall off over the winter, you'll see the warm, honey-brown exfoliating bark underneath.

'Pee Wee' - 3-4 feet tall and wide. The smallest in the bunch!

'Sike's Dwarf' - 4-5 feet tall and wide. Our most popular, this hydrangea fits nicely in a shade garden without making too much of a space impact.

'Snowflake' - 5-6 feet tall, 6-8 feet wide. The largest, longest flowers of our oakleaves, these flowers are also double flowers. Very showy blooms, gorgeous when mature if you've got the space for it!

'Snow queen' - 7-10 feet tall and wide. The biggest oakleaf of the bunch, it's flowers are also equally large and impressive.

Hydrangea serrata - Saw-toothed hydrangea

These hydrangeas commonly get confused with Hydrangea macrophylla. Both varieties that we carry are outstanding plants that have held their own over the years.

'Preziosa' - 4-5 feet tall and wide. The leaves on this hydrangea are very unique, holding shades of purple throughout the season with equally impressive fall color. The flowers emerge white and start fading to pink, then darker pink as the season progresses. This hydrangea can take moist soils.

'Shirofuji' - 2-3 feet tall and wide. A dwarf Japanese hydrangea that has bunches of small, star shaped double white flowers that emerge lime colored. Really cute, nice fall colors, likes part sun or part shade.
