Behmerwald Nursery was founded in 1989. The initial focus of the business was on growing and selling perennial flowers to garden centers in the Philadelphia area. Since 1989 our surrounding area has become much more suburban and our focus has shifted to the retail market. We have loyal customers from Schwenksville, Collegeville, Trappe, Limerick, Royersford, Skippack, Harleysville, Souderton, Lansdale, and many other towns in southeastern Pennsylvania.
We grow an extensive variety of perennials, shrubs, and trees all selected to excel in our region. Because they do so well in the landscape we have great selection of Native plants. With over 20,000 plants in stock at the Nursery there is definitely something here that you need or want in your landscape. We grow our plants using environmentally friendly methods to protect our environment.
What sets us apart from garden centers and chain stores is that our location allows us to not only grow and sell a tremendous variety of plants, but also display them in our many display gardens here at the Nursery. The display gardens allow us to evaluate plants and grow the best performing varieties, as well as allow our customers to see what mature specimens should look like in their landscape.
With the rapid growth of our area we expanded into the local landscaping market. Our landscaping department can service all of your landscaping needs from initial design to installation. Whether you choose to do it yourself or have it done for you, Behmerwald can provide accessory products such as mulch, topsoil, and soil amendments to accommodate all your landscaping needs.
What's the name all about?
Behmerwald is a unique name and not the easiest to remember, spell, or even pronounce but the name has special significance to us. The Nursery property was originally purchased by Joseph and Rose Behmer. Joseph Behmer had immigrated from Austria as a young man. When the Behmers purchased the property they named it "Behmer's Woods" which is "Behmerwald" in German. When the Nursery was founded it took the name of the property. The owner of the Nursery, William (Bill) Donnelly, is the grandson of Joseph and Rose Behmer.
