The flower of this plant looks like a porcupine sandwhich. Two distinct levels of petals occur, hence the name 'Doubledecker.' The growth habit of this plant is similar to regular Purple Coneflowers.

It's hard to believe a five foot perennial could be called a dwarf, but this Joe Pye Weed falls into that category.  The species reaches seven feet in height, and is rather intimidating in the garden.  Check out Little Joe if you want a smaller dwarf.
