year. Consider the function of your
landscape. Do you want more
screening from your neighbors? A
wind-block for your back yard? Some
shade for a picnic table? Your
landscape should do more than just look nice, it should also meet your practical

Contact your local County Cooperative Extension Office about getting your
soil tested. For just a few dollars
you can find out invaluable information regarding your soil's condition.
Knowing the nutrient content of your soil will help you gain the maximum
performance from your plants.
Dormant trees and shrubs can still be pruned, but be careful with any
that are spring blooming.
Watch for insects and diseases that may be spending the winter in your
garden. Check for them in any
debris that might have collected in your garden over the winter.
Wind-blown leaves, dead foliage, and twigs make a haven for garden
problems, and should be removed from the garden.
Continue to watch for snow
accumulation on your evergreens, and clean them off as necessary.
