Smoketree can be utilized as a large shrub or a small tree allowing for some versatility. Summer foliage is a bluish to dark green color. Flowers are small green inflorescence. The showy part are the 'hairs' striking maroon puffs cover this plant after the flowers are spent. Prefers full sun and will tolerate a wide range of soil conditions. Deer resistant and drought tolerant.
