You know spring is coming when the trout lilies come up! A welcome sight this spring ephemeral has distinctive green leaves with purple mottling and a yellow nodding flower on a leafless scape. Trout lily will spread slowly to form colonies. Found in moist shady woodland areas where it blooms before the leaves flush out and goes dormant with the summer heat.
