This species of bluestem produces what looks to be puffs at the top of its stalks. It has blue-green stems that produce a beautiful red fall color.

This tall grass is a good choice for wildlife gardens with the seeds being eaten by birds and the foliage used for cover and nesting sites.

Naturally found in wet meadows and stream banks and can be used in similar applications in the landscape. An excellent rain garden species.
