Hearts a fire is a unique, small tree. Dark pink flowers followed by heart-shaped leaves of burgundy-red, orange and gold set this tree a fire in spring! Leaves turn reddish-green as they age.
'Hearts A' Fire' redbud is an upright cultivar that produces fantastic color! It brings you a mix of red, tangerine, gold, and dark green. Compared to 'Flame Thrower', this cultivar seems to have darker green leaves and less chartreuse tones.
As with most redbuds, early spring, usually around April, brings a flush of beautiful pink/purple flowers that emerge before the trees leaf out.
Redbuds are naturally occurring as understory trees and, as such, typically prefer at least some shade throughout the day. Many of the newer cultivars have been bred to withstand more sun, especially with adequate moisture. Morning sun and afternoon shade are favorite lighting conditions for redbuds.
