Small's Beardtongue has purple and white tubular flowers, usually blooming in early summer. The tubular flowers will attract all sorts of pollinators, including hummingbirds!
In addition to hummingbirds, you will often see bees crawling into the flower to take advantage of its nectar offering. Fall brings seeds that are enjoyed by birds.
Naturally found on dry upland areas, this species is quite drought tolerant. It will form a taproot that is able to plunge deep into the soil to acquire water.
