This is a large native beech tree. This stately tree can reach 80' Tall and wide at maturity. Eventually produces edible beechnuts. Easily identified by its smooth gray bark and tan leaves that remain into winter. Typically a lower well branched tree. Small inconspicuous flowers in the spring give way to the beechnuts that wildlife just loves! Prefers full sun but grows well in shady locations in moist well drained soils. Hardy zone 4-9.
