Terrific Native holly cultivar that won Holly of the Year in 2003 and is still said to be one of the best American Holly cultivars out there! 'Satyr Hill' produces loads of red berries that typically turn fully red in October and will last all through winter. The leaves are a nice dark glossy green. 'Satyr Hill' differs from the species with a more compact and pyramidal habit. It also bears a larger berry crop than the species.

Good for attracting bird species to your yard. Berries provide food while the evergreen foliage provides cover and nesting sites. Pollinators also love the small white blooms.

Can be maintained as a hedge or to almost any size with proper pruning. If allowed to grow it can reach 30 feet. This is a rather slow growing plant usually only reaching about 9 feet in 10 years. Plant a 'Jersey knight' holly to get lots of fruit. While American Holly is mostly deer resistant, strong deer populations have been noted to pick on the soft new growth.

'Satyr Hill' was a chance seedling found at a nursery in Maryland and named for the street the nursery is located on.
