A good wildlife plant especially when the seed heads form. Many of our bird species that are here year round or migrate here for the winter utilize these seeds. Also a larval host plant for many Skipper butterflies and the Common Wood Nymph.
A very easy growing grass that will tolerate a wide range of soils including dry, moist, even occasional flooding. Foliage typically remains very upright but may flop in too much shade or too rich of soil.
