Hummingbirds and butterflies are regular visitors to phlox, using their long proboscis to reach in the tubular flowers for nectar. You may also see bees chewing holes in the back of the flowers to get to the nectar.
This species prefers moist sunny areas. It would be a great addition to meadows and naturalized areas as it will self seed readily. If you deadhead the blooms you can avoid seed heads and also extend the bloom time. Does not do well with dry conditions so adding a nice mulch layer to keep the roots moist and cool is a good idea if adequate moisture is not an option.
