Individual flowers are short loved but new ones will bloom in succession. Blooms arise above the foliage on reddish stems with a red buds forming before flowers emerge. Club shaped seed capsules will for after flowering. Basal foliage takes on a reddish tinge and is evergreen to semi-evergreen. Because it likes drier soils it is drought tolerant once established.
