A stunning spring blooming wildflower that is a sign that spring is here! A single "stem" with 3 petaled maroon flowers framed by 3 large green bracts below. You'll see these bloom in April-May in woodland setting with high organic matter. After flowering dark maroon fruits are produced which are eaten by wildlife. Best grown in woodland areas where it can bloom in sun before the trees leaf out and then gets more shade when the weather starts to get warmer. Foliage usually dies back by late summer as it does not like the heat but it is a perennial wildflower. Spreads slowly by rhizomes.
