Considered one of the hardiest fig cultivars, 'Chicago Hardy' has the distinctive fig foliage and bears delicious medium sized fruit in late summer - fall. Finally a fig that you don't have to lug inside for winter! 'Chicago Hardy' does not need cross pollination so you will only need one to bear fruit. Best grown in south facing locations with some wind protection. If grown in an area where it gets colder the stems may die back to the ground but will typically regrow the next year. If stems area able to make it through the winter this fig can reach 10-15 feet tall and 9-12 feet wide but if the stems have significant die back it may only reach 4-5 feet tall. Stems are hardy to around 10 degrees F and roots are hardy to around -20 degree F. Prefers full sun to part shade and well drained soils.
