Lycoris bloom with large yellow spider like flowers on naked stems in late spring. The foliage doesn't form until after the plant has flowered and starts to die back. This is when it will collected its nutrients for next year so its best to not cut back the foliage.
This bulb is marginally hardy so in the landscape you can plant it in more protected areas with good sun (like south facing along the side of the house) and mulch it well, but there isn't a guarantee depending on what kind of winter we have. The other option would be grow it in containers as an annual or try and bring it into a garage or basement that stays colder (Preferably near a window) in order to allow it to go dormant but not be exposed to the cold winter winds/chill.
