Terrific Native tree that can be planted now and will be around for generations to come! Make sure that you have room for this tree since it can reach 100 feet tall. Male catkins are most distinctive of the flowers with the female flowers being insignificant. Pollination of the flowers give way the the acorns in fall. Fall color is dark reddish brown. Typically matures to a rounded shape that can be 50-80 feet wide. Prefers full sun to part shade in well drained soils, does not tolerate wet feet. Deer, drought, black walnut, and salt tolerant make this oak pretty versatile.
