This is a species of oak that has unusual narrow smooth leaves. You will see catkins in the spring that are typically brownish yellow and fall brings acorns that will be eaten up by mammals. The fall will also take the glossy green foliage and turn it to a mix of red, yellow, and orange. 

Oaks are terrific wildlife species because it is a host plant to many different Lepidoptera species, in fact, they host the most species! It will also attract birds in search of caterpillars and insects. Mammals and birds will enjoy the nuts in the fall.

This is a large shade tree that is often found in lowland areas but is tolerant of a wide range of soil types. It makes a good option for an urban shade tree because it can tolerate urban pollution.
