Although not a true cranberry the edible berries look and taste very similar, which is how this shrub gets its common name. A larger shrub that has white lace cap flowers in spring that give way to plump red fruits in late summer/fall. Flowers will produce showy sterile flowers around the outside of the flower cluster and the center flowers are the fertile ones, which tend to be smaller and not as showy. This is a self pollinating plant so no need to have more than one to get fruit! Fruits are enjoy by all sorts of wildlife including songbirds. Produces excellent fall color of reds, oranges, and purples. Good for a hedge or privacy screen as they can get on the larger side. If pruning is needed to keep a nice size and shape it is best to do right after flowering. Grows well in full sun to part shade in most soil types as long as they are well drained but typically found growing in consistently moist soils. Previously know as Viburnum trilobum
