White Baptisia bears the same pea-like flowers of False Indigo except... you guessed it they're white! Growing with more of a shrubby habit typically to about 3 feet with light green foliage. It is a long-lived perennial that has a few seasons of interest. The stems are bluish-gray and contrast nicely with the spring-blooming flowers. Fall brings the ornamental inflated-looking seed pods in which the seeds rattle around inside.
This is a larval host for two kinds of duskywings making it a great addition to a butterfly/moth garden.
Baptisia tends to be slower to establish but once established it has a long tap root making it drought tolerant and very hardy. White Wild Indigo is a nitrogen fixer so it's a good plant to have around to help support other nearby plants!
