Foliage is reminiscent of Heuchera with large heart shaped leaves in mound. There are two leaves on the otherwise leafless stalk just below where to flowers begin.
Blooming early in the spring this is a nice early source of pollen and nectar for our pollinators. Among others you will short tongued bees and Syrphid flies will visit the blooms.
Naturally found in organically rich but well draining soils in woodland settings, Although it can tolerate drier soils in more shade. It can be slow to established, especially in drier soils. Spreads by rhizomes and seed.
