This species is said to be pollinated by hummingbirds. Butterflies have been seen nectaring at the blooms.
Prefers consistently wet soils and can even be submerged up to 6 inches. Found naturally growing along streams, in swamps, and wet meadows. This would make a great addition for water features or in rain gardens. Deer don't find Iris palatable.
