Another nice Native oak tree! This tree prefers average to dry soil. Grows to 40-60 feet tall. Will eventually produce acorns that feed wildlife but until then it will be a host to many beneficial insects.
Chinkquapin Oak has similar leaves to chestnut oak. It makes a beautiful shade tree! This tree has yellow catkins that appear in spring. After pollination the acorns are formed and are typically about 1/2-1 inch long.
The acorns that are produced feed wildlife but until then it will be a host to many beneficial insects including different butterflies and moths.
A good shade tree for dry areas!
