This is a woodland goldenrod that is very shade-tolerant! This late-season bloomer is a pollinator magnet with its spikes of small bright yellow flowers. Another common name for broad-leaf goldenrod is zig zag golden rod because the stems will zig-zag at the leaves all the way up the plant.

In addition to butterflies, bees, etc loving this perennial it is also a larval host for several moth species!  Numerous bee species rely on Golden Rod plants for food, including several in the Andrena genus. 

A nice option for planting around black walnut trees since it is tolerant of jugalone and shade.
