Beloved by hummingbirds, butterflies, and all sorts of other pollinators the purple flowers of Ironweed are not only beautiful to look at but also help out the native pollinators! A late season bloomer for end of season color and nectar flow. Although the bloom period is later the foliage adds much interest and texture to the landscape. The foliage is thin and narrow similar to Amsonia hubrichtii with upright densely branched stems. 'Iron Butterfly' was selected for its more compact habit than the straight species. A great perennial for hard to plant hot, dry, rocky areas. Once established it tolerates drought and even occasional flooding!
