'Brilliantissima' is primarily grown for its attractive red berries that typically persist into winter. Fruit is larger and more abundant than the species. This is a more compact variety getting to only 6-8 feet tall compared to the species that can reach up to 10 feet. The fall color is consistent and more red. White flowers bloom early in the spring.
Aronia is an easy to grow large shrub that grows in dry to wet soils and everything in between. This could be used in just about any location in the landscape and is a great addition to bird gardens. It tends to grow in a vase-shaped manner. It will form suckers and can create colonies of allowed.
