Nannyberry is a summer-flowering shrub native to the eastern US. Small white flowers bloom in clusters and are loved by pollinators. Following the bloom, blue-black berries ripen in fall for the birds to enjoy. Fall color is a range of yellow, oranges, and reds and quite variable. The fruit is edible and is great when used to make jams.
Naturally found in moist, woodland settings, it is tolerant of either more sun or more shade. Around our area, with the hot summers, it would probably do best with some shade, especially afternoon shade.
