This is a US National Arboretum introduction. A native cultivar that has flowers that quickly turn a ruby red color on a somewhat compact plant. The blooms are large panicles that start out as white and quickly turn to ruby red. The fall color is a wonderful dark maroon on the deeply lobed foliage. The stems exfoliate from a tan to a cinnamon-red color.
Although it can handle a good amount of sun it is typically best in part shade. Too much sun and not enough moisture can cause leaf scorch.
