This is an easy to grow shrub that isn’t too picky about where its planted, as long as it's sunny and in well draining soil. June-August brings beautiful yellow flowers, the stamens in the center of the flower look almost like little yellow puff balls!
This species offers lots of pollen, so bumblebees are frequent visitors. It is also a larval host plant for the Gray Hairstreak Butterfly.
Overall a small shrub that can be used in mass border plantings, pollinator beds, and pretty much anywhere you’d like to put it. It will grow naturally in a rounded shape but can be pruned in early spring to enhance that form and control the size. Deer and other mammals tend to stay away from Hypericum because of the toxic chemicals present in the foliage.
