The nectar-rich flowers are favorites among hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees. Bumblebees are the most common pollinators. This species although it is monoecious is self sterile and requires another individual to get seed.
Mostly found in dry, rocky sites and almost prefers poor soil. A great choice for hard-to-plant dry areas... even in the shade! This species does sucker and can form colonies if allowed.
