This is a large deciduous tree that has pale yellow flowers in spring, usually from April to May. The blooms are on the smaller side individually but they appear in clusters making them showy. The foliage is large palmately compound that turns shades of yellow or orange in fall. The nuts are similar to other Buckeyes, with a larger fleshy outer with the nut encased inside.
The flowers attract many different types of pollinators like bees and hummingbirds. The nuts will be eaten by mostly mammals.
This is the largest of the native buckeye species and makes a commanding shade tree. Yellow Buckeye is naturally found in rich lowland soils.
