This is a great little tree that produces fire red fall color! Dense branching gives this tree a nice full look. Catkins appear in spring before the leaves flush out. The bark is smooth and grey which will eventually flute out.

This makes for a good wildlife tree with the seeds being gobbled up by turkeys, other birds, and mammals. This is also a larval host plant for the Eastern Swallowtail Butterfly and The Red-spotted Purple Butterfly.
Not a very particular tree that is adaptable to wet sites and even decent shade, although it won't be as full of a tree. This tree is a great choice for small to midsized gardens as the tree won't get too big and it's a slower growing tree.
