'Summer Swan Song' is a hybrid between Vernonia lettermannii and Vernonia angustifolia 'Plum Peachy'. The result is an exceptional mix of these two species. It takes on the dark stems on 'Plum Peachy' and pairs that with the bushy habit of V. lettermannii.
Ironweeds are traditionally very tall, robust plants that don't always have a place in small to midsized gardens, but 'Summer Swan Song' allows anyone to have these fantastic pollinator plant! Purple flowers bloom from late summer through fall adding much needed color to your garden but also giving bees and butterflies a much needed late season food source.
