White flowers bloom early in the season before the foliage leafs out. Flowers are pollinated by butterflies and bees and will then produce dark purple fruits in the summer, usually in June. Fruits are loved by many bird species. Serviceberry is a host plant for the Red-Spotted Purple and Viceroy Butterflies.
