This is a host plant for a few butterflies including Dogface Sulphur and Reakirts Blue. Many different types of bees, butterflies, and other pollinators will nectar on this species. You will also see specialist Plasterer Bees utilizing this species. The foliage is high in protein making it a good snack for different mammal species.
Although not a true clover this species is still a nitrogen fixer. This species has very good drought tolerance in part because of its long tap root. It will slowly spread by seed. Wonderful in a naturalized area and short wildflower meadows.
