The bigger the better! This giant coneflower has a flower stalk of 6+ feet! The leafless stalk arises from basal foliage that is quite large as well. The leaves are a powdery blue/green and can be evergreen depending on where its planted. Blooms are bright yellow dropping rays with large brown 'cone' centers.

Pretty much all types of pollinators feasts on the nectar and pollen on these blooms. Although the real show is in the fall and winter when the birds devour the seeds! Goldfinches are regular visitors to the giant coneflowers. Giant coneflower also supports the Wavy Lined Emerald Butterfly. (Click here for more suggestions for butterfly plants)

Naturally found in dry prairies and meadows where it gets all day sun. This a great plant for wildlife and pollinator gardens. It will spread by rhizomes as well as seed so it is best planted with other species that will compete with it.
